Frequently asked questions

How does GearValue estimate what my hardware is worth?

Each category (GPU, CPU, memory, etc.) has its own annual depreciation curve based on how quickly that type of hardware loses value. Your item's value = launch price × category curve × condition factor × current market factor. Market factors are refreshed monthly so estimates follow real used-market trends.

My component isn't in the catalog. Can I still track it?

Yes. When adding gear, choose "Custom item" and enter the name, category, launch/MSRP price and release date. The valuation engine works the same way with your own numbers.

Does GearValue need an account?

No. There is no sign-up. Your data stays on your device, and you can export a backup or a valuation report anytime from Settings.

What currencies are supported?

Values are modeled in USD. You can display them in USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, or CNY using approximate reference rates from Settings. Converted numbers are for display only.

Why does the app need network access?

Only to fetch the public price catalog and market summaries. No personal data is ever transmitted. The app also works offline with its last cached catalog.

How do I delete all my data?

Settings → Data → Erase All Gear Data, or simply delete the app. Everything is stored locally, so nothing remains anywhere else.

The estimate seems high/low for my part. Why?

Estimates are modeled from depreciation curves and monthly market snapshots — actual listings vary with local demand, bundling, and condition. Use the Sell Advice bands (quick / standard / patient) as a sensible range rather than an exact price.
